T. Boone Pickens once said:

“At current oil prices, we will send $700 billion dollars out of the country this year alone. Projected over the next 10 years the cost will be $10 trillion — it will be the greatest transfer of wealth in the history of mankind.”

While some argue that these are mutually beneficial transactions it's not a great idea to continue this practice. It's never a good idea to bolster the fortunes of those who could later become an overt enemy.

The Orient and the Middle East have risen to power in large part because of trade with the United States. What has China done with their new money? For starters, they've built up their armed forces. According to Wikipedia, the PLA (People's Liberation Army) is the world's largest military force, with approximately 3 million members, and has the world's largest (active) standing army, with approximately 2.25 million members. Regardless of one's views on American hegemony the Chinese military buildup is concerning.
